Conductors & Cables

The two main components used in the making of electrical conductors are- Aluminium and Steel alloys. Electrical conductors are usually in the form of standard wires. They transmit electricity atom to atom when a potential difference is applied across them. A conductor is chosen based on factors like tensile strength, fatigue strength, corona loss, local conditions, and cost. EIUL manufactures conductors based on the needs of the customer and as per industry standards. Till now, we have supplied more than five lakh km. conductors to customers across the globe.

AAAC Conductors

The AAAC conductors are manufactured using high strength Aluminium-Magnesium-Silicon Alloy. We use alloys because they have a high melting point and they are good conductors of electricity. EIUL is the manufacturer and supplier of AAAC with alloy type 6201/6101. The advantage of AAAC conductors is that they have a better strength to weight ratio, have enhanced electrical properties, excellent sag-tension characteristics, and amplified resistance to corrosion. That is why these conductors are preferred over AAC and ACSR conductors. Depending on the customer requirements, we manufacture and supply AAAC on wooden reels or non-returnable or Returnable steel reels.

AAC Conductors

The material used to make AAC conductors are single or multiple strands of hard drawn 1350-H19 aluminium. The speciality of these conductors is that they can be used in low, medium, and high voltage overhead lines. They find significant use in urban areas where pans are short, but conductivity is high. Also, due to their high resistance to corrosion, they are highly preferred in coastal regions.

AACSR Conductors

AACSR conductors are made of single or multiple layers of Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon alloy wire wrapped around a high strength coated steel core. Conductor’s core can be either single wire or stranded multi-wire. Steel core present in AACSR is present in Class A, Class B or Class C galvanizing for preventing corrosion. They are heavily used in transmission and distribution projects.

ACAR Conductors

The material used to make ACAR conductors is high strength Aluminium-Magnesium-Silicon(AIMgSI) alloy. Depending on the design of the cable, the number of wires of Aluminium 1350 and AIMgSI may vary. ACAR has comparatively better properties when compared with ACSR, AAC, and AAAC conductors. The reasons being they strike a right balance between electrical and mechanical properties. When ampacity, strength, and lightweight is preferred, ACAR conductors are the ultimate choice. They are extensively used in overhead transmission and distribution lines.

ACSR Conductors

1350-H19 Aluminium is used to make ACSR conductors. They are made up of concentrically stranded conductor with single or multiple layers of hard drawn aluminium wire on galvanized steel wire core. Whether the core should be single wire or stranded depends on the size of the conductor. The conductor is made from a solid steel core present in Class A, Class B, or Class C galvanizing enclosed by Aluminium stranding.

It gets additional resistance from protection when grease is applied to the core. Based on mechanical strength and current carrying capacity required by the application, the ratio of steel and aluminium is determined. These conductors offer high strength and conductivity as the lightweight and conductivity of aluminium, and the high tensile strength of steel is leveraged.

With favourable strength to weight ratio, these conductors are preferred over other overhead conductors because they have higher tensions, less sag, and longer span length properties.

AL59 Conductors

AL-59 conductors are low resistance high conductivity alloy conductors with excellent electrical characteristics. These conductors are made from AI-Mg-SI(Aluminium-Magnesium-Silica) rods. They consist of an inner core, and the inner and outer layers of the conductor are made with concentrically arranged strands. 

These conductors have superb sag-tension characteristics and better resistance to corrosion than ACSR conductor. When compared to ACSR, they have lighter weight, lower electrical losses, and better current carrying capacity. These properties have made AL-59 conductors widely accepted as transmission conductors.

STACIR Conductors

In terms of construction, STACIR conductors closely resemble the ACSR conductor units. The difference which sets STACIR conductors apart is the use of Heat Resistant Aluminium Zirconium Alloy (STAL) as an alternative to EC Grade Aluminium wires.

Construction:

The central wire is composed of aluminum-clad INVAR.

Outer layers are crafted by aluminium alloy that is thermal resistant.

INVAR: made of special iron-nickel alloy which has a low linear expansion coefficient. 

The aluminium alloy is further doped with zirconium which allows it to maintain all of its mechanical & electrical features even at extreme temperatures. STACIR Conductors are thus better performers that are economical.

TACSR Conductors

TACSR/AW Conductors are closely associated with the traditional ACSR conductors. 

The only difference that sets a TACSR/AW Conductor apart from ACSR is the Heat Resistant Aluminium Zirconium Alloy (TAL) in place of EC Grade Aluminium wires.

Construction:

The core wire is made of Al-Clad steel (20SA Type).

The outer layer is made of thermal resistant Al alloy.

This aluminium alloy is doped with zirconium which maintains both mechanical and electrical properties at extreme temperature changes too.

TACSR Conductors are thus cost-effective and of enhanced characteristics.

Aerial Bunched Cable

Aerial bunched cables are majorly used by utility service providers to distribute power. These cables are extremely useful in power theft-prone areas, for temporary supplies, and renovating an electrical system without changing voltage.

By using electrical poles, they are suspended overhead. Mostly 11 kV and 33 kV Aerial bunched cables are utilized for the distribution of electricity. Another major advantage that these cables carry is they are lightweight and easy to install.
